About the Family Room

Located inside Surrey Memorial Hospital, the Surrey Family Room is a warm, welcoming space where families can rest, recharge, and stay close to their child throughout the day and night. Working alongside our hospital partners, we complete the circle of care, ensuring families have everything they need to stay together through their child’s treatment.

From a quiet place to sit and breathe, to a hot meal, a shower, or a load of laundry, we take care of the everyday so you can focus on what matters most. No booking required for day use visits, our staff and volunteers are here to welcome you, support you, and make your time at the hospital a little easier.

Using Family Rooms

The Surrey Family Room is open to all families with a child under 19 receiving treatment at Surrey Memorial Hospital. 

Our Family Room is a shared space, and we ask all families to help keep it warm, welcoming, and comfortable for everyone who needs it. 

No referral is needed to use the Family Room during the day, simply stop by and our team will welcome you in.

Eligible Units Include:

To access a sleeping room, please speak with your hospital social worker. Priority is given to families with a patient in the NICU, CHC, or CAPSU, with additional access based on availability.

The Surrey Family Room is open every day from 9 am to 9 pm for families who need a place to rest, recharge, and stay close during the day. For families with the most critical needs, a limited number of sleeping rooms are available for overnight stays. Sleeping rooms are allocated based on greatest need and require a referral from your hospital social worker.

No booking is required for day use. Simply stop by between 9 am and 9 pm, and our team will welcome you. Sleeping rooms require a referral from a healthcare worker. Sleeping rooms cannot be booked in advance and are allocated based on greatest need.

The Surrey Family Room is open to all families with a child under 19 receiving treatment at Surrey Memorial Hospital. Eligible units include the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Child Health Centre (CHC), Pediatric Emergency, Child and Adolescent Stabilization Unit (CAPSU), Adolescent Psychiatric Unit (APU), and Family Birthing Unit (FBU).

There is no cost to use the Surrey Family Room for day use or overnight stays. We are here for every family that needs us.

Sleeping rooms are available for families with a child receiving care in the NICU, CHC, or CAPSU Departments. Rooms are provided free of charge based on greatest need and cannot be booked in advance. To request a referral, please speak with your hospital social worker.

Yes, the Surrey Family Room has a full kitchen, community pantry, and fridge storage for families to use. We also offer complimentary coffee, tea, and snacks throughout the day, freshly baked goods, and weekly hot meals. Grab-and-go options are available for families heading back to the hospital.

Yes, laundry machines with complimentary detergent are available for families during their visit. It is one less thing to think about during an already demanding time.

Yes, we have a private shower stocked with towels and basic toiletries so families can freshen up without leaving the hospital.

The Surrey Family Room has a play area filled with toys and books for younger children, a lounge area with a couch and television, and a quiet reading nook by the fireplace for families who need a moment of stillness. We want every member of your family to feel at home.
