“It seems I keep finding my way back the House,” says volunteer Board Member Anita Yuk. She first learned about Ronald McDonald House as a student volunteer. Years later when she joined her law firm, Gowling WLG, she was thrilled to learn about their long-standing relationship with Ronald McDonald House.
Now, as the Corporate Secretary and chair of our Governance Committee, she finds it incredibly rewarding to be part of a Board whose members are deeply engaged and always looking at what more can be done to care for BC and Yukon families.
She finds it especially rewarding to visit the House and see her work in action: “As soon as I walk in, usually after a day at the office, I feel its warmth and am revitalized. Maybe it’s the fact the front doors open to a big slide! Sometimes a child will tell me all about the music activity they were just at, or a recent visit by their favourite athlete or character, and I love that in that moment, it seems like the reason for their being at the House is completely irrelevant.”
Her goal is to support families when they can’t stay at home, by giving them the next best thing: whatever each family needs to feel as close to home and normal as possible.
As a corporate and tax lawyer, Anita helps organizations navigate transactions and solve problems so they can focus on running their business. Outside of work, she curls in the winter, plays soccer in the summer, and makes the most of Vancouver’s food scene year-round.
