Yes. Volunteers can sign up for additional shifts through the volunteer scheduling system when opportunities are available.

If you need to cancel, please do so as early as possible so another volunteer can be found. Shifts can be removed online in advance, and last-minute cancellations should also be communicated to the team directly.

Yes. Volunteers receive orientation, role-specific guidance, and ongoing support to help them feel prepared and confident in their role.

Yes. All volunteers are required to complete a criminal record check before beginning their role. Annual declarations are also required to confirm there have been no changes.

Volunteers are expected to present a clean, well-groomed appearance and wear appropriate clothing for their role. A Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon volunteer shirt and ID are provided and must be worn during shifts. Closed-toe shoes are required.

Yes. To help maintain a safe and comfortable environment for families, staff, and volunteers, we ask that all volunteers avoid wearing scented products while on shift.

Please stay home if you are feeling unwell, have symptoms of illness, or have recently been exposed to a communicable illness. The health and safety of families staying at the House is our top priority.

We ask volunteers to limit personal phone use during shifts. If you need to respond to a call or message, please step away from the area where you are volunteering.

No photos of children or families may be taken or shared. Volunteers must also maintain professional boundaries and should not connect with families on personal social media accounts.

No. To protect professional boundaries and privacy, volunteers may not share personal phone numbers, email addresses, or social media accounts with families.

No. Volunteers may not supervise or care for children in the absence of a parent or guardian, and may not be alone with a child at any time.

No. Volunteers may not transport families in personal vehicles or give personal gifts directly to families. If you would like to give something, our team can help direct you to the appropriate channel.

Yes. Group opportunities may be available for corporate, student, or community groups. These are typically booked in advance and may include hands-on activities like baking or preparing freezer meals.

Yes. Volunteers can track and access their hours through the volunteer scheduling platform.

References may be available for current volunteers or within 6 months of leaving, with advance notice. Requests should be made directly to the Volunteer Coordinator.
